History
Background
Origins
Carey was founded in 1843.[1]
Around 1888, George Chapman (1865-1903) moved to Carey under the name of George Kubsch. George did this to avoid suspicion of involvement in the Whitechapel murders of, "Jack the Ripper", where he conducted an autopsy on two of the victims and falsified death certificates.
In 1892, George Kubsch's former accomplice Aldridge Kesterson moved to Carey with his son Thornton M. Kesterson due to suspicions of him transporting bodies for George. Aldridge then became the handyman of the Carey Elementary school. Also in that year, George Kubsch had a son named Jeremiah Kubsch.
Disappearance of Mary Worthington
On the August 27th of 1908, Carey Elementary school handyman Aldridge Kesterson and students Louise Hatfield, George Von Stebler, Shawn McPherson, Jim Deedle, Alice Dodgson, and Jeremiah Kubsch pulled a prank on teacher, Mary Worthington. Aldridge's own son Thornton Kesterson was not present due to having been goaded by his father.
The prank seemed to have killed Mary, and her body was never recovered though schoolmaster Mr. Renshaw found shattered glass where it should have been. Mary left behind a daughter, Marie W. Agana, and her spirit may have become the ghost, "Bloody Mary" in folklore.
